Austin Projected to be 5th Fastest Growing Metropolitan

We Austinites see it everywhere - from downtown to surrounding cities - growth, growth & more growth!

How much growing are we expected to do? Well, according to bizjournals and the study they gathered from government data, the Austin metro is projected to grow to more than 2.7 million by 2025. This gives Austin the number five spot out of 250 U.S. metropolitan areas!

How fast are we growing? In 2005, the study calculated we would grow to 1.5 million residents in 2025 - that is a 87% increase in only 4 years! And, it is no doubt that we are preparing for that growth with new shopping centers, like Southpark Meadows, and new residential communities, think Mueller, downtown condos & highrises.

While some fear that Austin will change with growth and think the new buildings and projects are too many and may sit vacant, I believe that growth and change are inevitable and good indicators of a strong economy. Planning for that growth now by building is a step in the right direction!

I saw this too and it is amazing.  I remember when Austin was so much smaller and IH 35 had no upper deck.  I just hope enough water conservation measures are taken in Austin so that we always have enough water in spite of all the newcomers.

87% growth - that's where all that traffic is coming from! I"m glad Palmer extends past 1431, you can get from Georgetown to the airport on the 130 toll and 183 isn't light after light. I couldn't imagine the growth and our roads 5 years ago!

I have watched Austin grow for 46 years and it is still the most beautiful city in the State of Texas.  It always will be!
