Ten Tips for Conserving Energy in Your Home

I would like to share with you these helpful tips I found for conserving energy in your home & living more ‘Green’:

1) When using your disposal, using cold water instead of hot water helps save energy & solidifies grease so that it moves through the pipes easier.
2) Check the tightness of your refrigerator/freezer doors – if you can slide a dollar bill through the closed door, the seal is not tight enough.
3) Always run full loads in your dishwasher, washer and dryer.
4) If you can, avoid rinsing the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. Use cold water if you have to (the hot water used by the dishwasher later will get the job done!).
5) When baking, resist from opening the oven door to check on your food. This causes the temperature in the oven to drop by 25 degrees and additional energy will be needed to bring the temperature back up.
6) Switch your washer’s rinse cycle to cold water; this has no effect on the cleaning process.
7) Clean your dryer’s lint filter after each use to keep it running efficiently.
8) Insulate your water heater pipes with half-inch foam or pipe tape wherever pipes are exposed.
9) Repair dripping water heater faucets promptly; one drop a second can waste up to 48 gallons of water a week & the energy used to heat that water has also been wasted!
10) Have your central air conditioner unit tuned up about every other year by a qualified contractor to help the unit run more efficiently & prevent failures during peak cooling seasons.

These are just a few ways to help live a more ‘Green’ lifestyle. To find out more about ‘Green’ homes that are available, send me an email today!

Shannon, good tips. Where did you get them? You might add "set your A/C thermostat a degree or two higher, and use ceiling fans."
